Septiembre 2026

El Espíritu del Señor está sobre Mí, porque Él me ha ungido. Lc 4, 16-30

 

Queridos hermanos y hermanas misioneros. ¡Paz y Bendiciones!. Espero en la bondad de Dios cada uno de ustedes se encuentre bien, perseverando con fe en el caminar de la vida cristiana y de comunidad.

Hermanos/as misioneros es con gran sentido de responsabilidad, que tenemos que tomar lo acontecido el pasado 23 de Agosto 2026, en el Congreso Misionero. Esto fue un acontecimiento sin precedente en la historia de nuestro Programa Misionero, por tanto necesitamos ser corresponsables en asumir lo que nos corresponde en estos momentos difíciles. La Palabra de Dios nos ayuda a no olvidar y tener presente que, en el seguimiento de Cristo, vamos descubriendo que, hay  escenas del Evangelio que sorprenden porque muestran que seguir a Jesús no siempre resulta cómodo. Porque no todo es como creemos. A veces, las cosas no son como parecen. Jesús regresa a Nazaret, el pueblo donde había crecido. Todos lo conocen desde pequeño y esperan escuchar palabras que les llenen de orgullo. En la sinagoga lee un texto del profeta Isaías que anuncia la llegada del tiempo de la salvación y, después, pronuncia una frase que cambia por completo el ambiente: “Hoy se cumple esta Escritura que acaban de oír”. Al principio, quienes lo escuchan quedan admirados. Sin embargo, esa admiración dura poco. Cuando Jesús les recuerda que Dios no actúa según nuestros esquemas y que su amor alcanza también a quienes son considerados extraños o enemigos, el entusiasmo se convierte en rechazo. Aquellos vecinos que lo habían recibido con agrado terminan expulsándolo del pueblo. Este relato nos recuerda una verdad muy humana. Nos encanta un Dios que confirme nuestras ideas y bendiga nuestros planes, pero nos cuesta aceptar que su mirada es mucho más amplia que la nuestra. Jesús rompe fronteras, derriba prejuicios y nos invita a descubrir que nadie queda fuera de la misericordia de Dios. Incluso aquellos a los que nos cuesta trabajo mirarlos.

También nosotros, como misioneros podemos caer en la tentación de pensar que conocemos perfectamente a Jesús, simplemente porque hemos convivido con el Evangelio desde hace años. Nos suenan las lecturas, conocemos los ritos y algo podemos decir de la vida de Jesús. Pero conocer datos sobre Él no es lo mismo que dejarse transformar por su Palabra. Cada vez que escuchamos el Evangelio tenemos la oportunidad de permitir que Dios ensanche nuestro corazón y nos ayude a mirar a los demás con más compasión, menos etiquetas y una esperanza renovada.

La reacción de los habitantes de Nazaret, nos invita a nosotros como misioneros a preguntarnos si estamos dispuestos a acoger un mensaje que cuestione nuestras seguridades. La fe, madura precisamente cuando dejamos que el Señor nos sorprenda y nos conduzca por caminos nuevos, incluso cuando no coinciden con nuestras expectativas. Recordando las palabras de Pablo, “con la manifestación y el poder del Espíritu, para que su fe no se apoye en la sabiduría de los hombres, sino en el poder de Dios. “Es con esa fe, puesta en la sabiduría de Dios que necesitamos seguir caminando, con sentido de vocación misionera y aprender el arte de escuchar a Dios, escucharnos unos a otros y escuchar la realidad que estamos viviendo. La oración sea nuestra fortaleza y luz, que nos ayude a perseverar en buscar lo mejor para todos. La virgen María interceda por cada uno de nosotros y nuestro Programa Misionero.

Todo el Consejo Ejecutivo con el Guia Espiritual hemos tomado un tiempo para orar, discernir y tomar decisión, cuál es la mejor manera de proceder. Dear missionary brothers and sisters,

Peace and blessings!

I trust in the goodness of God that each of you is doing well and persevering in faith as you continue your journey in Christian life and in community.

Missionary brothers and sisters, it is with a great sense of responsibility that we must reflect upon what took place on August 23, 2026, during our Missionary Congress. This was an unprecedented event in the history of our Missionary Program. Therefore, during these difficult moments, we must share in the responsibility of doing what is asked of each of us.

The Word of God helps us remember and remain mindful that, as we follow Christ, we discover that there are moments in the Gospel that surprise us because they reveal that following Jesus is not always comfortable. Not everything is as we believe it to be. Sometimes, things are not as they appear.

Jesus returns to Nazareth, the town where He grew up. Everyone has known Him since He was a child, and they expect to hear words that will fill them with pride. In the synagogue, He reads a passage from the prophet Isaiah announcing the arrival of the time of salvation. Then He speaks a phrase that completely changes the atmosphere:

“Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”

At first, those listening to Him are amazed. However, their admiration does not last long. When Jesus reminds them that God does not act according to our expectations and that His love also reaches those who are considered strangers or enemies, their enthusiasm turns into rejection. Those neighbors who had initially welcomed Him ultimately drive Him out of their town.

This account reminds us of a very human truth. We love a God who confirms our ideas and blesses our plans, but we struggle to accept that His vision is far greater than our own. Jesus breaks down barriers, tears down prejudices, and invites us to recognize that no one is excluded from the mercy of God—even those whom we find difficult to look upon with compassion.

We, too, as missionaries, can fall into the temptation of believing that we know Jesus perfectly simply because we have lived with the Gospel for many years. The readings are familiar to us, we know the rituals, and we can speak about the life of Jesus. But knowing things about Him is not the same as allowing ourselves to be transformed by His Word.

Every time we hear the Gospel, we are given another opportunity to allow God to expand our hearts and help us look upon others with greater compassion, fewer labels, and renewed hope.

The reaction of the people of Nazareth invites us, as missionaries, to ask ourselves whether we are willing to receive a message that challenges what makes us feel secure. Faith matures precisely when we allow the Lord to surprise us and lead us along new paths, even when those paths do not align with our expectations.

Let us remember the words of Paul:

“With a demonstration of spirit and power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.”

It is with this faith, grounded in the wisdom of God, that we must continue moving forward with a true sense of missionary vocation. We must learn the art of listening to God, listening to one another, and listening to the reality we are currently living.

May prayer be our strength and our light, helping us to persevere in seeking what is best for everyone. May the Virgin Mary intercede for each one of us and for our Missionary Program.

• Let us continue praying to God through His Holy Spirit during this time of transition, as a process and date are determined for our Missionary Congress. The entire Executive Council, together with the Spiritual Guide, has taken time to pray, discern, and decide on the best way to move forward. More information will be provided by the end of September.
