“Señor enséñanos a orar”       Lc 11, 1-13

¡PAZ Y BENDICIONES!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas misionero. Espero en Dios  que al recibir esta carta ustedes se encuentren bien, llenos de fe y esperanza. les expreso mi saludo y oración para su comunidad y sus familias.

En vista a nuestro próximo Congreso Misionero a celebrarse el próximo 23 de Agosto 2026, quiero invitarles a vivir este acontecimiento como un tiempo de Esperanza que nos lleva al futuro de nuestro Programa Misionero. Hemos de reconocer que esto solo será posible, con la ayuda del Espíritu Santo; esto nos lleva a ser conscientes de que, nuestro “ser misioneros” solo encuentra razón de ser en la oración, personal y comunitaria y en las experiencias de compartir con otros el don de la Fe.

A la luz de este pasaje del Evangelio de San Lucas 11, 1-13, donde los discípulos le piden a Jesús que les enseñe a orar comparto con ustedes, este deseo de que cada uno de nosotros le pidamos a Jesús: “Señor enséñanos a orar” (Lc, 11, 1) recordando que la oración de Jesús es expresión de comunión con el Padre. Lucas, es el evangelista que más pone a Jesús en oración “un día Jesús estaba orando”. La oración consiste, en esa conversación filial con ese Padre que nos ama con locura; Santa Teresa de Avila refiere lo siguiente hablando del tema de la oración: “La oración es íntima relación de amistad”, sin oración no se puede estar en contacto con Dios, es un diálogo íntimo que incluye silencio, dejando que la García de Dios transforme nuestra vida.

Para la vida de un misionero, es de vital importancia reconocer que la oración del Padre nuestro nos abre a la dimensión de la fraternidad. Es una oración, destinada para aquellos que buscan el Reino de Dios con plena entrega de vida, y nosotros como misioneros hemos decidido libremente seguir a Cristo y vivir en su Reino. Seguir a Cristo es escuchar constantemente su invitación a perseverar en la oración y para que no dejemos de orar, Jesús usa tres imágenes: pedir, buscar y llamar a la puerta; si perseveramos en la oración esta produce siempre frutos inesperados, aunque no siempre como y cuando nos gustaría. Mis queridos hermanos misioneros/as la oración requiere tiempo, la insistencia en pedir, paciencia que debemos cultivar como seres humanos, en permanente dialogo con Dios; es posible que fuera de nosotros todo continuara igual, pero algo ira cambiando dentro de nosotros si perseveramos en nuestra oración, si nos vamos configurando con Cristo.

A continuación les invito a orar nuestra oración preparatoria para el próximo Congreso Misionero:

ORACIÓN POR EL CONGRESO MISIONERO

¡Oh Dios! envía tu Espíritu Santo

para renovar nuestro corazón, en este tiempo que nos preparamos

para celebrar nuestro Congreso Misionero. Enciéndelo con un deleite por servir

y un anhelo por la oración. Danos Espíritu de Sabiduría

para saber discernir tu Voluntad, para bien de nuestro Programa Misionero,

Que como misioneros podamos buscar, amar y servirte cada día de nuestras vidas,

Concédenos Espíritu de Fortaleza para perseverar en la fe, obediencia y unidad,

Que nuestro deseo por ser la llama de tu calor y amor, atraiga a otros hermanos a seguirte y

servirte con generosidad, y así vivamos ardiendo en ti.

Que así sea oh Dios que así sea. Amén

Que María la Madre del Redentor, interceda por nuestras necesidades y siga acompañando nuestros procesos de fe y conversión.

"Lord, Teach Us to Pray" (Luke 11:1–13)

PEACE AND BLESSINGS!

Dear missionary brothers and sisters,

I hope that when you receive this letter, you are doing well and are filled with faith and hope. I extend my greetings and prayers for your community and your families.

As we prepare for our upcoming Missionary Congress, to be celebrated on August 23, 2026, I would like to invite you to experience this event as a time of hope that leads us toward the future of our Missionary Program. We must recognize that this will only be possible with the help of the Holy Spirit. This reminds us that our identity as missionaries finds its true meaning only in personal and communal prayer, as well as in our experiences of sharing the gift of faith with others.

In light of this passage from the Gospel of Luke 11:1–13, where the disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray, I share with you the desire that each one of us also ask Jesus:

"Lord, teach us to pray." (Luke 11:1)

We remember that Jesus' prayer is an expression of His communion with the Father. Luke is the evangelist who most frequently portrays Jesus at prayer: "One day Jesus was praying." Prayer consists of a filial conversation with the Father who loves us beyond measure. Saint Teresa of Ávila said the following about prayer:

"Prayer is an intimate relationship of friendship."

Without prayer, we cannot remain in contact with God. Prayer is an intimate dialogue that includes silence, allowing God's grace to transform our lives.

For the life of a missionary, it is of vital importance to recognize that the Our Father opens us to the dimension of fraternity. It is a prayer intended for those who seek the Kingdom of God with complete dedication, and we, as missionaries, have freely chosen to follow Christ and to live in His Kingdom.

To follow Christ is to continually listen to His invitation to persevere in prayer. So that we do not stop praying, Jesus uses three images: ask, seek, and knock. If we persevere in prayer, it always bears unexpected fruit, even if not always in the way or at the time we would like.

My dear missionary brothers and sisters, prayer requires time, persistence in asking, and patience, virtues that we must cultivate as human beings in constant dialogue with God. It is possible that everything around us may remain the same, but something within us will begin to change if we persevere in prayer, as we become more conformed to Christ.

Prayer for the Missionary Congress

O God, send Your Holy Spirit
to renew our hearts during this time as we prepare
to celebrate our Missionary Congress.

Inflame our hearts with delight in serving You
and with a longing for prayer.

Grant us the Spirit of Wisdom
so that we may discern Your will
for the good of our Missionary Program.

May we, as missionaries, seek You, love You,
and serve You every day of our lives.

Grant us the Spirit of Fortitude
to persevere in faith, obedience, and unity.

May our desire to be the flame of Your warmth and love
draw others to follow You
and serve You generously,
so that we may live burning with love for You.

May it be so, O God.
May it be so. Amen.

May Mary, Mother of the Redeemer, intercede for our needs and continue to accompany us on our journey of faith and conversion.

• Our Missionary Congress will be held on August 23. Registration begins at 12:00 p.m., and the Holy Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. All missionaries are warmly invited to participate.
• The Annual Convocation of Priests will take place from August 25–28, 2026. Please keep all the priests of the Diocese of San Bernardino in your prayers as they gather with the Bishop for this special time of listening, prayer, and reflection.
